WHAT NOT BRING - Prohibited cooking items in Garrett Hall
-Toasters or Toaster Ovens
-Any appliance with an exposed heating element
-Electric skillets or griddles (includes George Foreman type grills)
Possession or use of any of the following is a violation of the Student Conduct Code. This list is not exhaustive. Residence Life staff may remove any items which may pose a threat to the health or safety of residential students, to the community, or which pose a danger to facilities.
o Air conditioners
o Space Heaters
o Alcohol or Drugs
o Empty Alcohol Containers (for decoration)
o Antennas or Satellite Dishes
o Bed Risers (or any material used to prop a bed frame)- STORE BOUGHT RISERS MAY BE USED AT YOUR OWN RISK
o Hot plates (including, but not limited to griddles or electric skillets, electric woks, fondue pots, or chocolate fountains, S’more makers, waffle irons) – ONLY ALLOWED IN LAKER KITCHENS
o Bunsen Burners (or any item that produces an openflame)
o Hoverboards (fire hazard)
o Candles or candle warmers
o Deep fryer (e.g. Fry Daddy)- ONLY ALLOWED IN LAKER KITCHENS
o Drums and amplified equipment such as electric guitars. Acoustic instruments can only be played in the residence halls with permission of the person’s roommate and only during non-designated quiet
o Electric heaters or electric blankets
o Fireworks, explosives, unsafe, and/ or flammable chemicals/liquids
o Fog machines
o Free weight equipment over 20 lbs. & Pull-Up Bars
o Halogen Lights (any model or style)
o Individually owned (personal) appliances including stove ranges, washer/ dryer, freezers, dishwashers, refrigerators, (large or small)
o Internet Routers
o Lava Lamps
o Lighter Fluid, charcoal that contains starter fluids, gasoline, or any combustible or flammable liquid.
o LP (propane) gas grill canisters
o Multi-plug Adapters WITHOUT circuit breaker/surge protector
o Oil Lamps
o Oil popcorn poppers
o Paintball guns
o Personal ceiling fans/ lights or dimmer switches
o Pets (except for guide dogs and one ten-gallon tank with fish)
o Pressurized canisters (CO2 or scuba equipment, spray paint cans, and helium tanks). Exceptions are only made for approved medical equipment.
o Vinyl Letters/Wall Art
o Wall mounted shelving, furniture, or fixtures
o Weapons (including martial arts practice equipment)
